Supertech Forged Pistons & Rings - For MINI N14 / N18 Engines in MINI Cooper S/JCW/GP


Supertech Pistons are forged from aluminium alloy for high performance and superior strength while maintaining low weight. Using a 4032 alloy (an aluminium alloy containing Silcon, nickel, magnesium and copper) the piston achieves a high temperature tolerance value meaning its deformation at high temperature is minimal. 

The Supertech N14 and N18 piston for the Gen 2 MINI is supplied in a variety of sizes to suit the needs of the engine. For example, if a bore is required due to scoring, the oversized version 77.5 mm is available and compression ratio options are available to suit MINI Cooper S or JCW or for tuning purposes. 

The pistons are also available in different compression ratios as follows:

  • 10:1 for the N14/N18 JCW/GP engine
  • 10.5:1 for the N14/N18 Cooper S engine
  • 9.5:1 a low compression option for high boost applications 

It is possible to install Cooper S pistons to a JCW and vise versa, if this is done ECU tuning should be adjusted to compensate.

The Supertech pistons can be used with the standard MINI camshaft and provide sufficient valve clearance has been confirmed with the Schrick and Newman performance camshafts. Other camshafts may require piston machining.

Why should I install Supertech forged pistons?

Forged pistons provide a stronger alternative to the standard piston found in the N14 and N18 Cooper S and JCW engine. The increased strength allows for a more durable engine and one that allows engine tuning to be pushed further in a safer manner.
